Guys, I feel ready to explode! Please help me! A few months ago, my parents bought me a more powerful laptop because the previous cheaper one was starting to have problems. Well, this one has been more powerful alright, but the Internet on this one has gone from super fast to super sluggish. It's been taking one single webpage anywhere from one minute to even five minutes. My family and I use DSL for an internet connection. PLEASE HELP ME!! !!

have u deleted temp internet files, tmp system files, cookies??? history??

antivirus??
antispy?
trojan scan??
how about scandisk defrag and disk cleanup, add/remove programs you dont use??
try running above utilities this will help speed it up

about the DSL do you connect using wireless???

have you tryed checking the system announcements of the provider(if its verizon) or you can call tech support and have then run a line test, when i had dsl(i now have fibor optic by same company) would run a line test and if there was no updating to the main server at verizon switching station, it was due to weather or car hitting a pole or data traffic through the phone lines.

believe it or not, dsl is effected by weather(rain, snow, cold) and other man made disasters.

withthe fast and slow, do u see it over a pattern of days, weeks, months??? cuase when i had slowness on mine i tracked it, it was once or twice a month and most were updating main internet server(their end) or problem in line between back of modem to the dsl provider(usually within half to 3rd of a mile)

wireless??? if so have you tryed it wired to the modem?? also check the lights on modem, are all lights solid green(or color that is specified by company as "normal operation"

when you touch modem, is it hot??? (it could mean its about to burn out it could be a short in the circuits inside)

I work at an ISP's tech support call center and my advice is the same as everything doordoctor said. Withthe most emphasis on making sure that your Anti-virus and Anti-spyware software is working properly.
