What kind of computer do you have?

I thought it would be fun to compare computers. I build my own, and so I know everysingle part in it. And was wondering if others do the same here... but if you don't I'd still be interested in the specs.

My computer specs.

P4 2.4Ghz overclocked to 3ghz
Abit IC7 Motherboard
1 GB of ram
Radeon 9700 All in Wonder
M-Audio Revolution Sound card.
120 GB Western Digital hard drive with 8MB cache. (this is all most full, need to get another really soon)
Lian-Li PC60 Case

Viewsonic P225f 22" monitor
I output my sound to a stereo reciever and use these large speakers I found instead of traditional computer speakers.
Grado SR-60 headphones These are my primary way to listen to my computer.

Its a pretty good machine. I built it about a year and a half ago, and its still really fast.

I also have an fish tank in my side panel... with some internal lights. Its pretty strange and gimmicky... but I like it. I'll see if I can get some pictures of it up.

Researching computer hardware is sometimes an obsession for me. Even when I don't plan on building a computer. I've also built computers for friends and family... I actually enjoy it.

I have a Dell desktop that's about 4 years old. It has:

* 384 MB PC 100 RAM
* 20GB 5400 RPM IDE harddrive
* 120GB 7200 RPM IDE harddrive
* CD-RW/DVD-ROM Drive (can't remember what speed)
* P3 667 MHz processor
* Sony 15" flat panel monitor with built-in speakers
* Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse
* Wireless 802.11b/g Linksys NIC

That one is running Windows XP Pro right now, but I want to put Fedora Linux on the smaller harddrive so I can play around with a new OS.

My primary computer is a Compaq Presario R3000 laptop that I got this summer. It has:
* 512 MB RAM (don't know what type, actually)
* 1 60GB piece of crap Toshiba IDE harddrive that HP has already had to replace once
* CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive (also don't know what speed)
* P4 2.8 GHz processor
* 15.4" widescreen monitor
* ATI Radeon 9000 IGP
* Windows XP Pro
* Wireless 802.11g Broadcom NIC

Obviously, I'm not a gamer, but the old computer runs reasonably well for small tasks and the laptop is the one I use most of the time and can take with me to the library.

I wanted to buy a laptop that's similar to this with a Radeon graphics card but my mom got this one for me for Christmas. Oh well. The graphics card can't handle most games but oh man, that Athlon is blazing fast. Acer is the greatest computer company in the UNIVERSE.

Pugly: That computer sounds awesome! I like researching computer hardware occasionally too, and I hope to build my own some day.

Errrrrr.... Mine's kind of cream coloured..... and rectangular....... and has loads of wires sticking out of it...... and makes a kind of "whirr" noise when its switched on..... I hope that's enough info for you to go on.....

I guess you could say I have a collection of computers, some I have built, some I have not.

P. 1 - 4 with windows 95 - XP OS (two are pre-windows OS)
various mb's of Ram and various gb's of hard drive

4 are "cream colored" and two are black. I have a blue Laptop and Pocket PC and a blueberry iMac.

My favorite is "The Original Portable PC" - a Timex Sinclair!

I'm crazy about gaming systems, too. (I still have a working Atari 2600.)

Onboard Intel AC97 sound chipset although this performs rather better than the measly 11MB video memory...

Can't wait until I can afford to sort a better one out, but while this is a little slow I don't use it for high demand gaming anyway - I have an Xbox for that - and internet bandwidth is more critical to me anyway, heh heh. Can just about pay for a 1Mbps cable connection which will have to do for now

I have so many computers I'm starting to lose them in the piles of crap in my basement.

My main two computers are both P4 boxes. One (2.0GHz with 533FSB) sits on a shelf and runs Linux, while the other (hyper-threading 2.8GHz 800FSB) sits on my desk and runs Win2K. I have a Lanpar TTY on my desk to access the Linux box when I break the network, but I usually connect via tVNC.

I have an old P3/1.0GHz Compaq laptop and a 486/DX2-25 toshiba laptop. The Compaq is dual-boot Win2K and Linux, and the Toshiba is 100% Linux because it doesn't support any windows newer than WfWG3.11. I don't use either these days because the back-light on the compaq doesn't work and the Toshiba has no battery.

I have another 486/DX2-33 computer buried somewhere. It runs Linux and was my firewall/switch until I decided to replace it with a LinkSys.

I also own two more computers (a 2.2GHz/400FSB P4 and a 300MHz P2) that I put in the upstairs bedrooms for my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. They both run Win2K.

I *think* that's all of them.

Piece of junk

Compaq Presario 5000 (2000 era) re built by a resale computer store with crappy parts.

10GB HD (4GB available)

Slow. Windows 2000 (Came with Windows 98) with lots of program crashes and the virtual memory always runs out when it does error logs. Windows 2000 does this stuff a lot. Even with brand spankin new top of the line computers.

monitor is tinted green and is burning out.

cable internet t hat runs slower then it should because of the computer.

CD burner is an external USB one that I got at office max 2 years ago on clearance for 74.00. Pretty good for external.

Oh well, I'll be able to afford a new computer next month.

I also have 2 others: 1991 Mac Performa and a Packard Bell from 1995 running on Windows 95. None have internet access.

I don't have much money right now, but when I get some I'm going to build my own computer. The one I have now is good enough to play most games, but it's nothing special. (This is only my main computer. I have about 3 other old computers, all disconnected, lying around places.)

Right now I'm running Windows XP Home Edition SP1 (don't feel like upgrading to SP2). I did have Linux Mandrake 10.1 installed, but I recently uninstalled it because I'm planning on using a different distro.
