One of my software users informed me that my website was being flagged by McAfee SiteAdvisor as "Malicious"! It may have been flagged like that for several weeks without me knowing. I had however noticed there had been a noticeable drop in sales of my shareware software.

I got straight onto McAfee and 24 hours later they acknowledged it was a false-positive and they have changed the status from "Malicious site" to "Minimal risk". Apparently they also share their data with Yahoo search who also use it to flag sites as malicious.

No explanation from McAfee why they blacklisted my site. No apology. Just a short email saying:

Quote:
There was activity or behavior with this site, its domain, its webhost, etc that indicated that there was potential risk. Upon further review, this has been adjusted.

My income from sales of my shareware software is meagre at best without McAfee sabotaging my sales. I contacted my site hosting company and they knew no reason why my site should have been blacklisted. I have contacted McAfee again asking for more details explaining why they blacklisted me. No reply.

I guess I should feel lucky. A little research shows that some people haven't even been able to get McAfee to respond at all and for some others it has taken over a year to get their status corrected! Bloody McAfee SiteAdvisor is crap. One of the biggest complaints levelled at McAfee is that they don't even bother to inform site owners that they are blacklisting their site! Judge, jury and executioner all in one go and they don't even have the courtesy to tell you what they have done! McAfee stinks.
