Hear ye hear ye my computer is dead!
RIP Minimee:(
I was thinking of getting a Lenovo think pad with 1,6hz proccesor 4ram and 320 gb hh5400rpm sata mechanical. I'm not a gamer, I mostly use my computer for downloads, streeming and surfing the net of course. Don't. se much point in mentioning price because prices are so different in different countries.
Thoughts?
Seems like people love it.

She's across the ocean, making things more complicated. Someone once said ~20 years ago, "nobody ever got fired for buying IBM" - it's still true today.
IBM = Lenovo and it's a good, solid brand. ASUS is another extremely good one.
I'd just make sure it's an Intel CPU (even the very latest "Celerons" are extremely good!) - the AMD processors shorten battery life and run hotter.
I might've guessed the USB thing was a prelude to something worse...
There's still a chance though. What makes you say the old one is broken? Will it turn on at all, etc?

nonsense about the amd,
intel does make several brilliant processors but compared to the new A series celeron and even core 2's are hopelessly outdated and the price tag is the same, yes a 3 generation old celeron will set you back the same as an A6 with 3, something gigahertz on 2 cores and a built in hd 7550, it even has a much larger cache and its transistor size is smaller, meaning ti requires less power per calculation and produces less heat.
talking about brand vs brand is senseless with so many makes and models , some with very specific uses.

celerons are crap. The pentium b960(which is better than a celeron)is ancient so use your own judgement llol. My amd athlon has been going strong since 2009 i only got a new one because the port where you charge it up is loose and so it wont stay on unless i put a book on the wire to slant it up.
also if the cache on an a6 is higher than the cache on a celeron the that is pathetic. Te a6 only has 1mb of l2cache.

Titangeek you always crack me up !
Bluemax well I'm surfing on it to write this but the screen might go crazy at any moment like it has for about a week or so. The graphics is part of the motherboard so it's not something I can replace. I did check how much a new motherboard would cost and it was as much as buying a new computer. The usb ports are working again however the wireless wont connect to the internet something about the dh something. I tried to configure it again entering all the addresses but nah. So I'm thinking I will install linux on this old thing and use it as a torrent downloader (it still works with lan).
I said it was dead because yesterday I couldn't start it up with out the screen going crazy right away so I figured it was dead. Also every once in a while for a few days now the screen has gone blue and said hardware malfunction so....
wtfid2 no not bestbuy so don't know which one you mean. I have found a site that sells computers with cosmetic errors like scratches and stuff that they can't sell for full price in the shops. They also sell second-hand. In any case the one I looked at was about 270 euros which is something like 350 dollars maybe depending on the course. I have noticed that electronics is cheaper in the states.

no i mean the actual core 2 series, the duo and quad,
i am running an i5 on my desktop and they are wonderfull cpu's, i3 mobiles do a good job as well and the i7 is a powerhouse, havent used an i3 in a desktop.
none of that equates to amd being overall a hotter running or more power hungry product.
it all depends on make model and even batch to some extent, with the a series there is also the fact that there is a full gpu included directly into the cpu, meaning that it will run a media center for full hd playback and even play quite a few games, something a normal integrated gpu cant, all for the same price as the now outdated celerons and cheaper than the core 2 series.
the resulting motherboards that a compatible are also cheaper since the integrated gpu would be useless even if put on.

Who said anything about Core2Duo??? You can't get those in any NEW machine anyway, and the Celerons from the 3rd-generation I-series crush the AMD A-series in all but GRAPHICS while using over twice the power. She's not playing games anyway, what does she need the fancy integrated graphics for?
(Don't get me wrong, I *love* the new desktop A10, but one gets a laptop to have as long of a battery life as possible and AMD just doesn't do that as well.)

This was the best comparison I could find, and that's for an A6 QUAD vs. the 2nd-gen Celeron G620 which would be outclassed by a 3rd-gen. The only times the A6 pulls ahead is in multithreaded apps, but at way higher power consumption. I'll try to dig up laptop component comparisons somewhere... maybe there's a significant difference? [shrug]
Of course, this may all be irrelevant geek-speek to our dear Salome.

*rips off shirt* RRAAAARRRR!! ! WINNNAAARRRRRR!! !!
Hahahaha! Well it's in Swedish and there is only one Lenovo on this site

http://www.inet.se/
I've checked on blocket which is sort of like ebay and there is a guy selling his old samsung nc10 for about a 100 dollars. It's modified with 500gb hhd. I could buy that and just put his motherboard hhd and all into mine. Hmmmmm?
This site has used and computers and the ones with beauty errors, it's also in Swedish.

Have to say this one is my favourite so far!

On that site I liked this unit best for the same price as the Lenovo but a whole generation newer and 20% faster.

On the other hand, because it's newer it comes with Windows 8 instead of 7... the Lenovo also comes with a bigger hard drive if you like to store & carry a lot of movies or something.
Tough call! They're both good... but I really don't like the new Windows 8 - it's just so radically different.
