so, I'm stuck in the hospital and the only way I can get net access is by tethering to my 4G galaxy phone.

I must say. I'm Impressed!

The 4g from my phone is much faster then the cut-rate ATT DSL I have at home.

The DSL is $38/month and the 4G tethering is only $15. Both plans feature unlimited data but the 4G plan does begin to throttle after the first 5GB of transfer.

I use my net connection to stream moves/TV (not too often), stream lots and lots of audio, websurf, and do schoolwork.

So, with getting throttled after the first 5GB, do you guys think I could get by with the 4G access?

I'm tempted to try since it is half the cost of dsl.....

I don't know the type of area you are in like a area that has lots of people or more like a rural area. DSL is a dedicated line back to the switching station which has positives but I know AT&T put caps on there connection. With 4G with it being a wireless connection you are sharing a tower with other people and when more people are on the tower the speeds will drop. Also alot of times on 4G or 3G for example when you go past the cap it will slow down to like 256Kbps. As more people get 4G devices in your area and off of 3G the speeds will drop.

i lived in a rural area for sometime and I was stuck on mobile broadband for a internet connection and it was fine to start off with then as more people of the same connection my connection slowed down to 16Kbps speeds.

^^^

16kbps! Wow.... 8O

Now that's the kind of info I was looking for. I'm going to use the tethering as much as possible this month, just to see, but I'll probably drop it next month.

I have great speed right now (in the city)b but I'm way under my data cap....

When Verizon first started there 4G LTE, PC Magazine did some tests and with the speeds being so Fast you could cook off that 5GB cap at max speed in 32 min
