I noticed that my computer recently start to work much slower. I think it's because of Norton 360 which i bought two days ago.

My computer has
Intel core 2.66 Ghz
6 GB RAM
Ge-force GT 630 4 GB

Yeah. That's why folks here on WP didn't recommend it last week.

I use Windows 8 so I don't need an anti-virus. Still, make sure to keep your file caches clean. By that I mean you should empty your TEMP folder often and use "Free up disk space" in Administrative tools often. I use IE10 so I also empty the file cache there every so often.

I find the best windows accelerator is the one that works at 9.8 meters/second/second.
Sorry had to make that joke.

Hi
You might want to try these if you haven't already done so.

--------------------------------

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Copy To]
@="{C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Move To]
@="{C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"AutoEndTasks"="1"
"HungAppTimeout"="1000"
"MenuShowDelay"="0"
"WaitToKillAppTimeout"="2000"
"LowLevelHooksTimeout"="1000"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse]
"MouseHoverTime"="8"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoLowDiskSpaceChecks"=dword:00000001
"LinkResolveIgnoreLinkInfo"=dword:00000001
"NoResolveSearch"=dword:00000001
"NoResolveTrack"=dword:00000001
"NoInternetOpenWith"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control]
"WaitToKillServiceTimeout"="2000"

Copy the above into notepad and call it anything.reg, make a backup if need be.

Right-click Computer>Properties>Advanced System Settings>Remote (Uncheck the box there)
Windows+R key then run type services.msc and disable Remote Registry | SSDP Discovery Service & UnPnP Device Host,
Distributed Link Tracking Client
Fax
Windows Search service (also I right click C:\ and uncheck the last checkbox also)
Secondary Logon
Print Spooler (don't have one)
Diagnostic Service Host
Diagnostic System Host
Smart Card

you can reference microsoft doc pages or blackviper.

Right click Computer>Properties>Advanced System Settings>Advanced>Settings(performance)>Advanced>Change>Custom size>2048-2048, try higher on yours

Open network and sharing center >Change adapter settings>right-click connection>properties>(TCP/IPv4)>Advanced>Wins tab>Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP

Ditching Norton and getting avast would speed things up too, also get a good defrag program like Diskeeper and defragment your MFT on boot.

Now you know - Norton SUCKS. You were warned...

Norton worms itself deep into the OS itself and is very hard to remove later. It's also one of the most demanding AV out there for both RAM and CPU cycles... but you're stuck with it now. Nothing will improve performance short of either upgrading or dumping Norton.

I had a similiar problem with windows XP, it just slowed right down. This best optimization I found(works for all windows OSs). :lol:

Was to reinstall your windows factory defaults, so it runs like when you got it. Then buy a cheap flash drive and install puppy linux on it. Boot your computer off that. Then you don't have to change anything with your computer, just use windows when linux doesn't do the job.

Just a suggestion. Windows 8 has built-in Internet Security. Microsoft Security Essentials was essentially (ha) re-branded as Windows Defender, and is included in Windows 8. So just make sure you run Windows update regularly. Or you can set it to auto update.

And...norton anything is pretty much proven to be very resource intensive. (using more RAM than it needs to, thus this might be why you are experiencing slowdowns.)

Frist thing dump Norton. In the 80's Norton was indispensable, those days are long gone.

To put things in perspective.. Symantec (who now maintains (sic) Norton AV)... Where good software goes to die.
