I'm having trouble finding AMD SATA AHCI Controller Driver

Laptop is HP DV2000 Windows XP Pro
AMD turion 64 Processor
AMD MB
Fujitsu 2.5" SATA Laptop 80GB Hard Drive

No options in the BIOS to change from SATA to IDE or whatever.

Beginning to think the HDD isn't compatible with the other hardware but not sure.

Any input from someone with previous experience of this issue would be much appreciated.

Something else is wrong.

1) That driver is probably on the Vista install DVD
2) I have never seen a motherboeard that did not allow setting the AHCI controller to ATA mode (sometimes called compatability or IDE or old drive mode)

3) You say you are trying to install Vista on a Turion 64 based system. Nothing good will come of this combination.

Yeah I dont understand it just won't pick up the hard drive even tho its all connected properly.

I tried to do HDD Diagnostics but just comes back with: Test Status No IDE Device

How do you mean Vista & Turion 64 nothing good will come of that Combo?
Would Turion 64 and Win7 be any better?

I am also confused that there aren't any HDD settings in the Pheonix BIOS it uses this connection:

So does that make it SATA to AHCI or SATA to IDE.... not sure.

Vista is crap and has less driver availability than either XP or 7.

Turion 64 is crap. It was crap when it was new; it's really old crap now. But if that's all you have then that's what you have. Also, few machines that canme out with Turion64 would have 1GB RAM in them unless it had been upgraded aftermarket. How much RAM do you have? Both Vista and 7 will require 1GB minimum.

crap software + crap hardware = badness.

I do not recognise that connector. It looks like a SATA connector that has been ripped off of a circuit board and photographed from the wrong side. A PATA (IDE) to SATA adapter would have some electronics to it. look for options for hard drive compatibility mode etc in the BIOS.

Yeah mine has 1GB RAM thats why I was hoping to put XP, Vista or more ideally 7.

The BIOS is really empty no real hard drive options, just standard security, boot options etc
