I know I shouldn't have done it-it was stupid. I was kinda desperate at the time. On every website I go on ads pop up that aren't from the websites. My computer just black out a moment ago said "Media failure" or something like that and a bunch of other stuff and every time I clicked on a button it repeated and repeated and repeated. And sometimes it shuts downs unexpectedly. I deleted the original software on my desktop but I can't rid of this other stuff. Also it seems to be progressing. Help???

in the future get your software from Ninite.com to avoid junk like toolbars and adware and anti viral scanners you don't want.

got to the site above and get Malwarebytes and run it. Also get AVG and keep it updated.

the only way to be sure to remove everything malicious is to attempt to restore from a System Restore point, it was the least hassle way to remove viruses that blocked my Task Bar and anti-virus software.

@Max000.
or save all the money on that heap of overpriced crap and just download and install linux or BSD instead? :?:

woud recommend to the OP to get someone who knows about computers to put a bootable copy of hirens boot cd onto a usb stick and change the BIOS boot sequence so the USB stick boots first, hirens boot cd is an incredible piece of kit for sorting out computers that have got fkd up by anything other than hardware failiure but they can also help with detecting hard ware failiures to.
the superb remake of windows 98 it contains with a sht ton of tools to fix the computer and parted magic [a operating system in its own right] amongst many other things are great to have lying around.

How much do you spend for that? Keep in mind that Mac OS X is a derivative of BSD, and upgrades cost $19.95 or less per year. Pretty hard to get cheaper then that.

I also think that your suggestion would be a little difficult for someone who is not familiar with Linux or BSD. Macs are plug and play right out of the box. No downloads needed except for maybe a few downloads from the app store. Which can be done in a matter of minutes.

A regular antivirus could be useful, but Malwarebytes AntiMalware is the tool for the job.

Personally, I'd look for an specialized forum to ask that question, there are people there who give more detailed instructions, have more experience with instructing repairs over the Internet, and are qualified to help you with more powerful tools (such as HijackThis)

What kind of software did you install?

As others suggested, run a virus scan. If it doesn't help, reinstall the operating system.

MBP... gag me with a fork... thats an overpriced wastefully made piece of garbage, the only reason I would even consider owning a computer with OSX would be because of Logic, and thats a big maybe... more then likely Id build a hackentosh. But to imply that OSX machines are invulnerable to malware is a load of bull, they are just as if not more then Linux and Windows, because apple takes an eternity to roll out new patches. There is just less malware written for them as less people are willing to overspend 800+ dollars to be trendy, or whatever the hell the excuse is for rationalising it. :roll:

Gag you with a fork? I haven't heard that one in a long time. What are you, a valley girl? :roll: At least you admitted that you don't use logic in your computer buying decisions. Yes Macs are the Logical choice.

ads and some software from a publisher you don't know has the advantage to modify and expose your pc to malware and viruses that even the antivirus softwares don't detect after a while, i find it very annoying to keep up with computer problems, but it's fun to learn something new every day. make it somewhat useful to install a linux distro and run that thing and just be like " oh i don't need to worry about windows, i got the kernel driver now you NT kernel behavior can't control yourself". but people still use windows all the time. linux is not really a operating more like a program that communities online make more ideas to add to the collection of software testing and distributing. only reason windows is a operating system, the software has only one company supplying updates. not other communities. linux is forwards while windows is backwards.

The only way to be nearly sure to remove everything malicious is to wipe the disks and reinstall everything from scratch.

it's also very important that backing up data so you don't lose things while getting the drive wiped out and reinstalling from scratch.
