So, I just got a new win 8.1 tablet, and despite a bit of frustration learning to use the new OS, I'm liking it A LOT!

However, I'm wondering about security issues. Since this is a tablet and storage and system resources are at a premium, I want the lightest GOOD security possible.

Right now, I'm only using windows defender (formerly microsoft security essentials, afaik)... I'd like to keep this rather than use a 3rd party app that might be too taxing on the system, but I do want my tablet to be secure, as well.

So, my question: Is windows defender adequate security for my new 8.1 tablet, or do I need something else?

Yeah... anymore, my browsing habits are pretty tame.

The riskiest thing I do is search 'women's underware' on amazon.com.

so you mean you are NEVER on Facebook since being on Facebook even for 20 minutes is what installed malware on my computer the first time and cost me $300 to get fixed.

^^^ Hell no, I'm not on facebook! I've never had a facebook account and never will.

I'm sorry to hear you had a problem.

I'm still using windows defender, but I've also added malwarebytes pro... It seems to be adequate so far.

So, did the malware sneak in on a dodgy ad or was it official facebook malware?

I always use firefox with adblock plus to avoid bad ads.

I believe someone posted something or it may have been in an add or something, this was prior to me knowing as much as I do now

I use malwarebytes and antispyware and an anti-virus also in the browser I use adblock and I have other add ons/extensions I block most cookies and have do not track and I am on a VPN (I used to get seriously trolled so by doing a great deal of blocking and stuff I have cut way down), I also use Web of Trust to track untrustworthy sites and help me know where not to go anymore.
