They've made it be that you now cannot reply in comments unless you agree to sign up for "Google +" and choose just one name, if you already have separate names for you Youtube account and a gmail account.

I have no wish to merge the two, as seems to be what they are forcing people to do now, so I'm not able to comment anymore, even when signed in under my normal Youtube name.

It's a new things they've implemented...

Yes, a lot of people are complaining about the "forceful" tactics they seem to be taking in persuading people to use the one name. For months they've been bombarding us all with pop-ups asking us to do so. Now it seems they are in a sense forcing the issue or the consequence will be that you just can't make or reply to comments if you don't switch.

I switched, found that it had completely messed up my channel page and I'd lost my custom user pic and other things. Some people wind up losing their videos and having to re-upload them. So I reverted back -- they give you a couple of weeks to revert if you don't like the switch.

I agree with you, I don't want my real name, as my gmail uses, on my Youtube account. And not because I'm doing anything wrong or illegal -- my You tube page is the most innocent of innocents. But instead because I don't believe it's a safe or a wise thing to have one's full real name just "out there" on the internet.

That's what I mean when you publish an unflattering comment about a politician you do not like, and my potential employer who may like him/she to read it

Not to mention the fact that as a teenager, I put in a lot of stupid videos on youtube :D

Exactly -- even just a comment that might later be a difference of opinion with someone you'd rather not see it can get you into hot water, be it a future boss or even just a new friend.

That's the problem with everyone's life being online -- nobody gets to know you gradually and organically. They can instantly discover all kinds of things they will judge you for without first having the chance to like you enough to forgive a few silly posts or silly vids!
