Try force reloading alsa or reinstalling alsa and pulseaudio.

This really depends on your distro and sound card... probably.

idk the pacage manager downloader thing on ubuntu is broken had to update 315 updates the last time then it restarted the sound card to basic configuration tried allt hat tried everything

What makes you think the package manager is broken? That's a bigger problem than sound not working... If you don't update often, there will be a lot of updates. Perhaps you updated to a new version of Ubuntu? You're sure you tried everything in my link?



I'm not familiar with Ubuntu anymore though...

You came on here, asked an extremely vague question - didn't provide any details on what is actually going on, what events could have caused the issue, or what you've already tried to fix the issue - and you expect someone to pull an answer out of thin air?
