Okay. So I have a Toshiba Satellite A665 laptop. She runs on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit. She crashed on me today, Blue Screen Of Death included. The last error reason message I got was "Bad_Pool" or something like that. This isn't the first time she's crashed on me, but this is the first time I got this message. The last time she crashed on me was because I had a trial version of Bitdefender that required Service Pack 1, which I have yet to install. (I'm such a chicken. ) Does anyone know what this is? Is this the end of my computer, or do I still have hope?

P.S., I just received an update of my McAfee Total Protection either yesterday or today. Could that be it?

First, have you uninstalled bit defender? Do that, then install SP1.

Second, you don't have 2 antivirus packages installed, do you? There is nothing more horrifying to look at than 2 competing antivirus programs installed on the same machine. Uninstall both of them, then install your favorite antivirus.

Third, have you tried starting your machine in safe mode? It could possibly be a corrupt driver causing the issue.

Fourth, when's the last time you backed up your data? If worse comes to worst, you may need to reformat your hard drive and reinstall everything.

1. Yes, Bitdefender is LOOONG gone. I'm not sure if the machine will take SP1. I'll try, though.

2. I only have 1 antivirus currently, McAfee Total Protection.

3. I haven't had the problem since earlier, and I'm on the machine right now, and whilst a little slow, she's doing fine.

4. I can back everything up, but formatting and reinstalling everything sounds scary. I'm no computer expert, you see. I only know the basics of computers.

Tell you what, I'll back everything up, and then I'll update to SP1 and see what happens. (I've never updated my service pack before, so I'm actually a bit scared. I'm such a coward! )

The only thing you need to do when installing a service pack is to double click on it's icon, and let it do it's thing.

As for reformat and reinstall, most PC providers provide an image of your hard drive, as it came from the factory. Take a look at the disks that came with your system to see if that is the case. Reformat and reinstall is usually the last thing one does when all other troubleshooting fails to work.

I'm downloading the service pack now, as Windows Update doesn't list it, and I'm clinging hard to your and Microsoft's advice.

As for the discs, I lost them a while back, but I'm almost sure they're in my closet somewhere in one of my office boxes. I'm going to go look for them just in case worst comes to worst. (BTW, it wasn't the factory that provided them, it was Best Buy, more specifically, GeekSquad. They did it extra when Mom first purchased the computer.)

EDIT: The service pack is now installing, and I found the discs! (I'm typing this on my iPod, BTW.)

Ta-daaa! SP1 installed without a problem! My computer is using more RAM now, but I suppose that's to be expected. Toshiba10 (that's what I named her. LOL) used to use around 1.6 GB idle, but now she's using around 2.3GB idle, and is a little slower. I guess that's normal?
