I've been using HitmanPro.Alert as a browser guard on all my browsers since the Conduit infection last October, and now it says Firefox has an intruder! None of my other browsers have an intruder according to HitmanPro.Alert, so what the hell! I've also been using Trend Micro Browser Guard, and just recently installed MalwareBytes Anti-Exploit, and they say nothing, so am I being scammed or something? I just don't know.

I am getting sick of computer problems. I know, I should get Kaspersky instead of McAfee. I'll get to it when we get the money for it. Same goes for MBAM.

It kind of sounds like you are using two anti-viral programs? And I've heard this can sometimes be a mistake.

I only have one antivirus: McAfee Total Security. HitmanPro.Alert is a browser guard offered by the same website as HitmanPro, the malware removal tool. Trend Micro Browser Guard and MalwareBytes Anti-Exploit have the same exact function.

I had a friend from another website say the same thing! It kept trying to install on her computer without her permission!

I find windows defender does a fine job. Installing a dedicated antivirus software just slows down the pc

I had someone else tell me that Microsoft Security Essentials does pretty good. Is it the same thing as Windows Defender?

McAfee and Norton are terrible for slowing down your computer.
"Bloatware" as they are known as. ;)

I highly recommend Avira Anti-Virus.
It's free and incredibly light-weight, and it does a great job of finding and putting viruses in quarantine.

If anyone wants to try it, make sure you uninstall any other anti-virus software you have, so they don't conflict, as AardvarkGoodSwimmer mentioned.

Seriously, it's downright amazing.

Edit: While we are on the topic of PC protection and maintenance, I would also recommend a tiny program called CCleaner.
It automatically clears cookies, and empties your internet Cache, and a bunch of other nice little tasks to keep things running efficiently. I usually run it once a week and it takes all of a minute to do its job. :D

Bear in mind by default it will also clear any form data for websites. For example, you'll have to re-type your login information so that your computer will 'remember' it again.
