Title pretty much summarizes the jist of it. I'm not really picky on brands (as long as they're not made by Apple), and either Linux or Windows is fine (though I'd prefer it to be Windows 7 because it's what I'm familiar with).

This computer should have-

1. A decent amount of memory and ram. I like playing PC games and running programs such as Photoshop and Flash.
2. A webcam built in
3. A large monitor
4. Decent battery life
5. Has to be around $650 at most (going a little bit over is okay, but I wouldn't go farther than $700)

Thanks in advance!

I have had very good luck with Toshiba laptops. They just keep going and going. And yea, I like Win 7 as well, I sprung for this one just before 8 came out as I wanted no part of it. Both purchased at Best Buy, however last time there they were all Win 8. They guy told me they'd put 7 on it for me if I wanted it however.

I've been considering a Toshiba for a while now. My biological dad still has his and he bought it six years ago. Still runs almost perfectly.

I like the variety of price ranges here. I'm not too familiar with the brand, but it looks good.

Clevo is the brand that makes Sager, and provides the computers for OEM Gaming Laptop vendors. The RJTech stuff is just the basic system.

My first laptop was a Sager. It was my LAST laptop for years as it was never right. I had it replaced not once but twice and was what killed my interest in laptops for years. Perhaps they are better now, but I am NOT willing to find out... :x

You might want to check this one out:

Acer Aspire V5-561PG-6686 15.6-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (Gray)

Intel Core i5-4200U 1.6 GHz (3 MB Cache)
8 GB DDR3L SDRAM
500 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
15.6-Inch Touchscreen, AMD Radeon R7 M265 Graphics
Windows 8.1, 4-hour battery life

For the price It has a decent CPU, decent RAM, decent battery life, decent graphics card, 15.6 inch screen. It's not top-of-the-line but then again, you're not shopping for a top of laptop. In my opinion, $674 It should do everything you want it to. Oh, and it's a touchscreen.]

I actually really like this one. It's about the same size as my current computer surface-area wise, but a lot thinner. This is awesome because I'm getting a smaller backpack soon and my old one would probably take up a lot of space. I also think I can live with Windows 8.

I bought my Toshiba laptop used 6 years ago and it's still running great. Gets a lot of use too, every day. I would buy Acer, ASUS, and probably several other brands except HP. Broken hinges on two of those (Mrs. Rooster is rough on 'em). I see a lot of good press on Surface Pro 2 but i think it's too pricey.

HPs are known to use sub-standard capacitors as well. I have lost track of how many HPs I have repaired for people. Dell was another high maintenance item but not quite as bad. Acer and especially ASUS are decent machines as well. I don't know if E-Machines are still around and I never saw a laptop from them. They are just a cheapened HP and are even poorer in quality. Still I am sticking by my Toshibas. One is 6 years old and this one is 1 1/2 years old. Other then the one trojan on the old one, never a problem with either!

Agh. The laptop I have right now is an HP, and it's never worked right. I also have an Emachine and it's pretty sh***y as well (but works better than my HP laptop for some reason).

I'm still looking at Toshiba models, but I think I will go with the Acer Aspire after all. It suits my needs well enough.

Consider the purchase of a good second-hand machine as an alternative to a new machine from one of the cheaper brands. I'm typing this on a seven year old Lenovo, I use the machine for work and for personal use and it has only once let me down. Last month the power lead developed a fault and I needed to resolder it. The Lenovo Thinkpads are professional machines with a professional price BUT you get a laptop that is built like a tank and it will not fail you.
