One of my desktop computers, I like to have Windows XP (Personal choice), and Ubuntu on another, as my main OS. The thing is, Windows XP is not compatible/won't run when the motherboard is set to AHCI. It'll crash right before install.

Is there a way to set it per HDD, or is there just one setting? My motherboard is ASUS Z87-K
Also, is it possible to install Windows XP on ACHI mode?

You are having crashes because Windows XP doesn't natively have AHCI drivers.
You could try installing AHCI drivers whilst booted in IDE then change the BIOS back to AHCI.
