I know there aren't many Apple fans here, but I just upgraded to Yosemite OS, and I HATE the new task bar. It's flat, and lifeless. Anyone know how to get the old 3D task bar back ??

Also, its been a bit of a pain upgrading all the apps I use ...

No, sorry, Linux here.

But I'm very fond of Lovecraft. He is my favorite author.

The 3D glass look with drop shadows, frost effects and so on has been on the way out for the past few years. After the novelty value of heavily GPU accelerated GUI elements wore of, the minimalistic look returned.

Prof, I'm an apple fan. If the Yosemite upgrade is unsatisfactory, then I will stick with the snow leopard. It is important to me how things appear, as well as function. Apple should in my humble opinion retain the nice desktop details.
Have you tried any apple forums or that magazine online that deals with all things macintosh?

I'm here.

I love Yosemite and dark mode.
It is snappier than Mavericks and gives me better battery life.
The new features are good too.

Oh Safari is actually worth using over FireFox now (I hate the current FF).

My Late 2011 MBP runs it like charm (ok I do have 16GBs of RAM in it)

I recommend it now.

Yosemite is flat and minimal. When I'm working it's the the thing that I'm building that I'm interested in, not the box it comes in. The OS should be like an art gallery, tasteful, plain, minimal, functional.

Skeuomorphism is no longer cool. My screen is not 3D, my address book is not made of paper, my calendar does not have pages to turn.

All of that stuff is bogus, we can do better.

Yes, I also dislike Yosemite. Apple also similarly screwed up my iPod. I had a meltdown when I saw the new layout... so ugly... and bright... and lifeless. Luckily after altering the settings I made the layout a lot better. I still prefer my Linux.

I'm actually a fan of the "flat" UI look. It looks simple, clean, and that makes my brain very happy.

The only issue I've run into is with graphics. I have a MacBook Pro I bought in early-mid 2013, and it has the discrete graphics option. Every so often, the machine will crash when the dynamic graphics switching happens. It seems to be a widely known issue, and I'm waiting for a fix.

My work MacBook Pro, a late 2013 Haswell model without discrete graphics, runs just fine. Haven't had a crash yet.
