I attended Khan Academy and basically learned algebra over two years (that points system really helped). Later, I tried several coursera courses, I never made it past week 2. I'm still in school, so its really easy to give it up when deadlines start looming.

My scholarship dries up after this term, so i'll sign up for the differential equations series that edx teaches next year. I'll try to stay with it longer than 3 weeks. I won't get any credits of course, but at least i'll get good free practice before I spend $1,000+ on a class while working full time.

Thanx for the reply MDD123, what are you studying at school ?

MOOCs are a blessing for people with Asperger's, I wish we had them way back early when i was at school, I was described as as smart but lazy kid by my teachers but my grades would not always reflect that,
i would often not find motivation which was primarily due to other issues, like bullying and being that 'lonely' guy,
but having said that, the MOOCs themselves are not geared for aspies either, i am more like marathoner, and that is how i studied when i was a student, i.e. i would do cram sessions before the exam, and that is how i want to study these courses, but the forums are slow, and instructors dont respond, i have been to udacity, which is the best if you want to learn technology, i loved their college algebra taught by Miriam Swords Kalk and another professor, i also loved introduction to computer science on udacity, i have dropped out of Algorithms by Robert Sedgewick on Coursera, but i plan to take it, as soon as i get a study partner, if i am motivated, i can spend enormous amount of time in front of screen, like 12 hours in a day if their is someone around to answer little queries, otherwise i loose motivation, after i finish Algorithms, i want to spend some time (which is going to be enormous i guess given the length of curriculum) on FreeCodeCamp, I hope i will be able to find some study partners here as most guys on MOOCs forums and chat rooms themselves are not so committed to each other

You really live in the moment lol, I can see why that would work better. I found school overwhelming myself, 3 or 4 classes is one thing, 8 concurrent classes means no free time, and that was just middle school.

I'm shooting for electrical engineering, but my overall goal is to work in the mechatronics sector, so I need to branch my knowledge base into mechanical engineering too.

Are these courses in session when you try them? It's a little discouraging that people don't participate more, but I suppose I only have myself to blame, I'm in an Arduino class right now and I haven't made it past week1. It'll take some better commitment and time management in the future, but for now, I've had my fill of lessons, I shouldn't have even signed up for this one.

I'm spending more time with home projects. I'm making a greenhouse right now, I plan on making an electric incinerator after that, and that's just when I'm not working.

I guess you mean are these courses available, on Coursera some courses are archived, while others are such that you have to attend them while they are available, and they are made available at regular intervals, at Udacity, everything is archived (if it is the right way to describe how Udacity works) as far as I know, and udacity is the most flexible, of all MOOC providers i think.

Apart from that, if anyone wants to get deep into web dev, go nowhere else, FreeCodeCamp is the best, but u can supplement it with comp sci courses on udacity and coursera, i am trying to carve out a little aspie community, bcoz i am a bit disabled temporarily right now and if something is not working for me, i cannot ask anyone to help, on the other hand, my main stress is on problem solving and i am more than willing to always help out others, i myself need only help with 'this or that little bug', or 'what tool to use' or fixing the development environment, these are the things that piss me off, and i really want someone to have been physically present but to save my energy, i have taken time off, so I dont lose the steam, i will appreciate the response of other community members on this thread
