So the Universe is expanding at an accelerating rate
and as it does this it creates more vacuum
and vacuum or space is not empty,
according to string theory it is full of strings

So, could the expansion of the Universe be explained by the creation of more vacuum
and not Dark matter or Dark energy?

Just a thought that has been niggling at me...

It's not that more vacuum is being created, the vacuum expands, taking more room and spreading thinner. it's becoming more of a vacuum than it already is.
Also, noone is really sure what dark matter/energy really is, that and strings could be the same thing.

This isn't really a stupid question, but it is one which science can't answer (yet).
In the scientific world, the only stupid question is one which isn't asked.
