Here are a few things that may help you find and fix the problem:
1. Run a scan for malware in the free version of Malwarebytes. This is good to do regularly even if your computer is running well. Malware can certainly slow your computer down, but doesn't always.
2. Make sure you are using a secure Internet browser such as Firefox or Chrome, AND have an ad-blocker installed, such as Adblock Plus. Having an up-to-date browser and ad-blocker can help prevent future malware infections as well as speed up your computer while you're browsing the web by blocking advertisements that consume all your computer's resources.
3. Check the "Task Manager" (Pressing Ctrl, Alt, and Esc keys should bring up a menu where you can select this) to see, what is taking up the most of your computer's resources. Even if you don't have malware, one of the programs you have installed may be taking up a significant portion of CPU, memory, etc. Once you figure out what is consuming all the resources, if nothing else, at least you will have a better starting point when asking for help.
4. Check your laptop's fan ducts for dust or any kind of obstructions. If needed, use a can of compressed air or blow cool, dry air into the vents until all dust is removed.
Good luck!
