As Fnord said, the laptop is unfortunately likely to fail anytime soon. This could also be caused by the graphic card (which can be a separate component or, for most laptops, built-in the motherboard, which makes it impossible to replace).
Now it depends on your finance, I'd recommend changing the whole thing but it will likely cost much more than 100$. If you decide to replace the screen only, I would recommend you to pay a professional to do it. It will only add a few $ to the bill, and changing it by yourself if you have no prior experience playing with hardware will be annoying and you risk destroying it all.
