Use firefox and install the following plugins:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1136

You will have NO ads whatsoever.

WP before Adblocker Plus with Firefox was a nightmare of flashing lights.

I'm happy to not have seen one single ad since I installed it. It's the only reason I'm here, actually - the ads were intolerable for me before somebody told me about adblocker plus. (Thank you, whoever that was :D )

I think I misunderstood - you don't mean popup blocker, but something to stop the embedded ads  stupid me!
I somehow manage to ignore them as part of the scenery.

Be sure to install the update engine for Adblock too, that way you don't have to manually block them, there's already a blacklist there for you.
