I am watching a show on Netflix called "Rise of the Hackers." The part I'm at is where they are discussing encryption, primes and semiprimes. Is anyone who has really good STEM skills familiar with this?

The show is old, in terms of computer years, and I'm wondering how much progress has been made on quantum processors since this show was written. They say that if this is developed, it has the potential of crashing the whole internet.
