One of my computers had Windows 10 put on it very early. I wanted a machine I could "experiment" with and learn Windows 10 on.

Maybe a month ago, tho', my main machine somehow updated to Windows 10 one night without my permission. I found it running 10 the next morning.

That machine now has, in the upper left hand corner, a weird or stupid question each time on its login screen, along with a little "globe" symbol. (Not an actual example, but things like "Does ice cream change its flavor when it melts?")

My other machine, the one I originally put Windows 10 on, it has no such questions on its login screen.

Is anyone else who's running 10 seeing such questions in the upper left hand corner of the login screen?

I think that the default system settings have changed a little as Win10 has been updated, so it behaves a little differently depending when it got installed.

To turn off the silly messages...

- Go to the start menu and open the "Settings" manager (little cog icon).
- Choose the "Personalisation" icon.
- Select the "Lock Screen" item in the list on the left.
- Scroll down the right hand side of the window - you'll find a switch called "Get fun facts, tip, tricks ...."
- OFF!

And just to note, you only have 1 month if you do want to revert back to your prior OS. Although at this point you might as well keep 10, just...lock it down.

No intention to do that. I don't want a computer that'll no longer be supported in four years. I now know Windows 10 well enough where I've no qualms about updating my final Windows 7 machine. It's just a matter of actually sitting down and doing it...after backing up all the stuff on it. (There's no way I'm upgrading without backing up. Too dangerous, despite my main PC having done it without my permission with no problems.)

Ok...what? What happened when it was a damned tool and not you're buddy? Didn't they figure that out with 'Buddy" and the "Paper clip" and all that annoying stuff?

Why can't I get an operating system that is just a tool and not trying to be a sideshow?

It sounds weird, but I miss the DOS days when I had absolute control over everything.....and it wasn't hidden trying to make you do stupid things like....ohhh, I dunno, like not know how to turn off all that monitoring crap and a ton of other privacy issues that just bug me.

I am paranoid enough that if this is what has been found....what hasn't?

Look how they buried the damned updates and such without proper identification in the update panel? What else are they burying?

Time to buy some fresh tin foil......

There's always FreeDOS, which is open source. For that matter, you can always install Slackware Linux, which doesn't even bother installing a GUI, and defaults to the BOurne-Again Shell.

CAn't do that at the moment. All my software will only run on Windows or MAC. There are no variants. Kinda trapped by the demands of my industry.

And that sucks.........I feel trapped and it's why I don;t like the way they are forcing things for software that is basically like car design in the 50s and 60s. Look!! WE raised the tail fin up 1/2 inch and moved the nobs inside a bit. Imagine the endless fun of trying to find the new positions and train your body where they are ....for now...Bwahahahahaha!

Putzes......innovate instead of strangulate......The damned industry is soooo stagnant.......They seem to only be able to think in terms of bling these days.
