Ok I just did a clean install of Arch Linux on my second Desktop today and when I resume from suspend using either using pm-utils or systemctl I get a black screen and nothing else. The system appears hung and I can't ssh into it so I take it its not just video related. I read the wiki and I have tried to remove autodetect as a hook. I have tried creating a quirk in /etc/pm/sleep.d/ and finally I have tried to disable the "Memory Remapping Hole" in my DRAM settings in my bios. None of these work, I am drawing a blank so I need some ideas. I don't need a fix but I at least need some ideas as to what can cause this cause I am completely clueless.

I post this here and not on Arch Linux's forums because they are brutal on forum etiquette and I don't feel like being yelled at any more than normal. If you don't capitalize something in your post I swear to God you can get banned over there. I am not banned from there I just feel like I walk on eggshells there and I am not in the mood.

Hey Edenthiel, this is kinda deja vu, seems I remember trouble shooting with you before. Its on my slightly older but still usable Desktop and here are the specs and I'll also share what I have found out since OP.

Linux Kernel 4.4.5.1
AMD Phenom II X4 970 Processor
M4A87TD Motherboard
8 GB DDR3 Ram (Corsair vengeance)
Nvidia GTX 760 2 GB
Corsair CX750 ATX Power Supply
1 TB Hard Drive

So I have found some post that hint around at this being an issue with the newer kernels and I have three other system that I just did a clean install on as well and I haven't tested any suspend or hibernating feature on these other systems. Let me get back with you after some testing but it appears that a possible solution is to use linux-lts from the AUR. That is the only thing I have found that could solve the issue so let me downgrade my kernel and see what my other computers do when trying to suspend / hibernating. You are welcome to google a solution but I do have something to work with and I'll post back in a bit.

Arch Linux is a rolling release, which means that you typically get kernel updates before everyone else. This occasionally leads to a few bugs (often fixed very quickly) that other distros do not typically get.

Dumb question, but have you ever given Manjaro a spin? It's like the Arch equivalent of Ubuntu, so it's easier to set up and it runs on a slower, more stable release schedule. However, everything you know about Arch should easily transfer over, since it is basically just Arch under the hood with an installer, a differently maintained set of repos, and some software included out of the box. I mean, it won't give you the same "nerd cred" installing straight Arch would, but I really like using it, and I think it's superior to any of the Ubuntu or Debian based distros I've used. Also, it still gives you access to the AUR, which I flipping LOVE. :D
