I am currently designing a video game (it is a tribute to a show), and I want to know if anyone knows how to do this in Unity 5...

How would one start creating a physics-based movement system mostly like the one in the video below?

I honestly don't even know how to start, and no one on the unity forums is really answering this question, so I am asking here. Does anyone know where I can begin? I know it sounds like an impossible question, but I want to know if anyone here can help or point me in the direction of some tutorials that could help me start.

Thanks.

It is C++, if it helps. Thanks.
