At first, I thought firefox was just randomly crashing a lot, but then I noticed that every time it crashed, it was loading a page on the wrongplanet forum. Is anyone else having this problem?
(I'm using chrome for wrongplanet for a while to see if firefox crashes anymore when I don't use it to come to this forum).

I don't know about problems loading WP with Firefox, as I have been using Sea Monkey lately. I had been using Firefox as my default browser, but I had problems with it when running videos, like on Hulu, and YouTube. The programs ran way too slow and stuttery. A relative had loaded several other browsers on my PC for me to tryout. I had tried Sea Monkey before without problems, so I am using that again. The videos run better on Sea Monkey, with only occasional slow downs and stuttering. I have a slow DSL speed, as that's all I am paying for, so I don't expect a lot, but the Firefox problems drove me nuts. Watching videos on it wasn't much better than dial-up. Sometimes non video pages also loaded way too slow on Firefox, too. I had the latest version, so I don't know what could be causing the problem. I will mostly use Sea Monkey instead now. I also have Chrome and Internet Explorer on here, but never use them, because they are more often targeted by malware. I may check them out sometime, just out of curiosity, though. The first browser I ever used was Internet Explorer many years ago, and I had a lot of problems with it back then. Although I may "explore" it, I don't think I would want to use it on a regular basis.

As for your own problems with Firefox, I have come across stories on the I-net lately about other people having problems with it. I think you are right to try another browser for now. I still sometimes use Firefox for non video stuff, as I have a lot of links on my "Super Page" there. So far, Sea Monkey doesn't have the Super Page add-on, and I am still trying to get all my links and bookmarks copied onto Sea Monkey. One thing that has been a big help is my ProtoPage account. I have a huge number of my bookmarks on bookmark widgets on my homepage there. Once I had that site bookmarked onto Sea Monkey I had access to most of my links. I also recently put the link to my old Yahoo page onto Sea Monkey. I hardly used it any more when I started using a different web mailer, and ProtoPage, but lately I have been unable to get into my new email account, so now I am back to using my old Yahoo email account. I don't like that they track you, but I need a working email account to keep in touch with relatives.

I am glad we have access to other browsers, and I hope you don't have any more problems.

I use Firefox, and while it doesn't crash when I'm on WP, I do get quite a few "script errors" and temporary freeze ups. It's not doing that anywhere else.

FireFox has a lot of issues. I get the feeling it's one of those projects that's gotten out of control. I found out AdBlock was available for Safari, so I use that now. FireFox has gotten slow and buggy. Many, many years ago, I used the old Mosaic, then Mozilla. I think FireFox is going the same route.

Wow! I just did the math - I started using the Internet back in 1992, so it's been 22 years. Back then, Mosaic (1993) was just an HTML text reader with the ability to insert images in-line, and not much more - it crashed a lot. And, I used Netscape Navigator. Again, having seen several browsers come and go, I think FireFox is on it's way out.

I used a heavily-customized Firefox with tons of addons until version 29, and had no problems with WP other than the usual issues everyone runs into, like the infamous "Could not delete old search id sessions" error. Nowadays, I use Pale Moon with all my old Firefox addons and such on my PCs, and Firefox Mobile Beta on my phone. Still no issues.

I'm not getting crashes, but I am getting a page that says something like "Your browser is checking something before taking you to Wrong Planet" --- those aren't the exact words but something to that effect. I've been getting that on both Firefox and also the Silk browser on my tablet.

No crashes specific to WP at all here, with Firefox v30.0.
Try starting it with add-ons temporarily disabled?

BirdInFlight, that message ("Checking your browser before accessing wrongplanet.net") is the CloudFlare service performing security checks.

I've been getting that too, lately. Just in the last couple of weeks. It never did it before. It must be something new.

Thanks Cornflake -- I see now there is some small print mentioning Cloudflare, although, as AutumnSylver says, this seems to be newly happening and wasn't doing this before. Bit odd?

Heh - you think that's odd? They started just as soon as I'd upgraded to v30.0.

It wasn't related though, and just something additional that was implemented at CloudFlare at the same time. Others using different browsers are seeing the same thing too.

There is nothing different about the wp.net forum - it's just another forum like all the others.
What might be happening is some ad. specific to that page and the OP (many of the pop-up ads here are "targeted"), which is why I suggested trying with add-ons temporarily disabled to see of there was some problem caused by those.
I just block all ads (AdBlock Plus and NoScript) to avoid the clutter and distraction. It works very well and I can access that forum through Firefox with no issues at all.

I use AdBlock with Safari. Ads seem to cause all sorts of issues.

I use adblock as well, so it has nothing to do with ads. I don't understand why it keeps happening.
It's when a page is loading. Either when first trying to access the site, or when I do something like previewing a post or trying to post something.

Not all ads or aspects of displaying ads on your PC are disabled by AdBlock Plus - NoScript handles that nicely and a stack of other nonsense. The two essential add-ons for Firefox, IMO.

Have you tried restarting Firefox with all add-ons temporarily disabled?

Yes, I'm finding it happening when using "Silk" on my tablet, too!

I guess it's only a minor inconvenience when all is said and done, but a tad bit annoying all the same.

I use Adblock on Firefox but I see what you said about it not blocking all ads.

Turn off all add-ons and see what happens.

Then turn each one one at a time.

Been having problems with Avast bitching about WOT, which sucks because I finally broke down and paid for a three-pack of Avast, under the general idea that these companies have to make money some how. Can't remember if I donated to WOT. I got confused between two Ad Blockers, I think I donated to the one I hardly used,

I tried Google Chrome, but I just don't like the way it remembers all the places you visited.

My son and I like the online multi-user Flash game "Tanki Online", and the general suggestion is to use Chrome in full screen mode to get the best FPS.

I haven't had any problems with Firefox with WP or any other sites for that matter.

I use the newest version of Firefox. I don't know if it matters, but I use ad-blocking add-ons, and Classic Theme Restorer because I don't care for Firefox's new look.
