A rare astronomical event will be taking place on May 9th: a transit of the planet Mercury across the face of the sun. It will be visible from most parts of the world except Australasia. Here are some details:

http://eclipsewise.com/oh/tm2016.html

Watch it if you can, and maybe if you get a photo you can post it here. More details to follow. If you search the news you can find more too.

I kind of hope someone somewhere will do a live streaming of it. I don't have a telescope that would work for this, but it's pretty interesting.

Cool!
I watched transit of Venus at my school's observatory.
Ohhh, Mount Wilson Observatory will have a public viewing on their solar telescopes!
The gates open at 5:30 am, so I must drive up Angeles Crest Highway to 5000+ feet really early in the morning.
Should I go? Should I go? Should I go?

So, after looking at NASA's page for the MESSENGER spacecraft, they are apparently doing a live feed of the transit. Have a link.

Did you see it?

I saw it, not very well, using binoculars as a projector. There is also a good sized sunspot visible now, much bigger than the tiny dot of Mercury. 8)
