Autodidact math possibility
https://www.quantstart.com/articles/How ... ity-Part-1
Anyone who actually knows math, what do you think of sites like this? Possible for the totally math-ignorant?
I'd be willing to give it a shot - I really do want to learn this subject, but it's impossible apparently to find anyone who will teach an adult this without infantalizing or insisting you start back at the times tables and arithmetic.
Would it be possible to educate yourself through sites like this, or not really practical?

If these guys know how to be "quants" why are they trying to sell books that will be competition for them???

Read Polya's book How to Solve It. It is written for grown-ups. Your best bet is finding free lectures on youtube. There are many such lecture sets. Also learn elementary physics, then more advanced physics along with your mathematics studies. Physics is the main source of mathematical ideas. Isaac Newton invented calculus just to deal with the motion of bodies.

Define totally math ignorant.
I can give a list of books, apps, websites and things I've found that help. How to solve it is a great book, which served to structure the modern presentation of algebra and elementary mathematics to better serve higher maths. Operations (+,-,*,/), you have to be capable of performing and memorizing without understanding the process doesn't help. Memorizing on top of understanding the process is a bit different though.
What are your goals, are you willing to devote 2-6 hours a day to this every day? If so why, are your needs better met with less work?
If you don't really love it, it's going to be difficult to go through it on your own, that's why school exists.

Thanks for the suggestions !
I've always found physics totally fascinating and is one of the very few areas where I get an idea about what an identifiable emotion is. That seems counterintuitive I suppose, but it's a sense of broadening and quickening urgency that draws me to it. But I've always been turned away and defeated by my problems with arithmetic and a slightly dyscalculic issue with transposing numbers. They "blur." Even typing a phone number takes concentrated effort because they're numbers.
Again, counterintuitively, I've always been fascinated by math, possibly because I can't do it. I'm curious, I suppose would be the best explanation, and I want to really get into something that has been a fundamental area of inability all my life. I see my mathematical inabilities limiting my understanding and holding my mind back from understanding things like physics in which I'm interested.
