Are there any camera experts on Wrong Planet who can help a photo newbie pick a camera that's better than my crappy Samsung phone camera?

What are you going to use it for? What is your budget?

I thought about getting a system camera with lenses and stuff, but i got myself a digital camcorder instead since i mostly take videos. Interestingly enough, while shooting, i can also take snapshot images which are saved to the card while recording video.

So, before you take advice from someone who say Olympys so and so or Pentax this or that - what are you going to use it for?

I'm going to take casual pictures with the camera. I won't be doing any big photography. Things like taking pictures for social networks, etc. but not really important stuff.

Most of the point and shot cameras are quite good for everyday use. Figure out how much you want to spend and what features are important to you.

B&H Photo is a good place to start looking

Fuji X100T

I was a photography major, and I love to have full control, but I also want to take good pictures without worrying too much about details. I have the previous version of this camera, the X100S, and it's fantastic! You can use it like a point and shoot or get into the manual controls. Better lens than a Leica.

Cool camera! But the learning curve for using it effectively may be a bit much for the OP.

It has auto aperture and and auto exposure settings. It's no more difficult than any other point and shoot.
