PC Building is actually a lot easier than most people think. All you need is a screwdriver and a few YouTube videos.
Pretty much but there are some pit falls to watch out for, you want to make sure that you have enough amps on the 12v line for any video card that suck tons of power. You also want to make sure not to place hardware on anti static bags, they are only anti static on the inside and you will create shorts by using them. Some people use the motherboard box to see if a PC will post before the case, I say use some type of stand off that is several inches off the ground provided you make sure that both sides are not touching traces on the board. In addition, you want to be very careful about clearance in terms of height, if you get a huge heat sink that covers the board, you may need some low profile ram.
But... yeah you are right, a little bit of research and its pretty easy.
