The partitioner keeps freezing, or something like that. It starts partitioning, then goes to a blank screen (black). It turns gray, then black again with a blinking white line at the bottom. After that, the computer stops making the usual noises it makes when doing something. CTRL+ALT+DEL is the only command that'll do anything(restarts). After restarting, the installation starts all overt again, and nothing's changed in the HD. So, what's happening?

What sort of Linux-distribution are you trying to install?

Ubuntu, on a 1999 Compaq Presario Internet PC. Also plan on dual-booting (Win98SE...FAT32) once I can set-up everything.

Have you checked the installation disc to make sure its all there? That can cause installation issues. There is an md5sum check file to download separately with the ISO - you need to make sure it tallies with the md5sum for the ISO file - you need to check it against the file not the burned data. I can't think of an md5sum checking program for Windows off the top of my head, but I'll have a look for you. :)

OK, I worded this badly. I got my hard drives partitioned correctly. But it seems that it won't format correctly. I think the real problem is not returning to the installer after formatting, forcing me to start over.

You could try making the partitions with some other program.
