I was appalled at the amount of personal information that is easily searchable now. There are multiple websites that list my name, address, phone number, DATE OF FREAKING BIRTH, past addresses, and known relatives.

This is all prime info for an identity thief. Remember, the industry does not care if your identity is stolen, YOU must care. Imagine if you upset someone online and they decided to SWAT you? This makes it easier for them.

I hate how they did this without consent.

People search websites get their data from public records. You need to get personal information removed at the source. The average person doesn't have the resources to have their utilities, legal transactions, financial history, and other public transactions handled through a third party. You'll have to spend all your free time trying to remove it after its been released. New people-search sites are popping up all the time.

For that matter, a lot of stuff can be crossed-referenced by social media handles...google your username here for instance and see if you find links to yourself...it might surprise you. (mine is not linked to anything that is actually me btw. But I use different nicknames everywhere)

Yeah but I have a unique name. There is only one of me in the entire planet. So when someone searches for me, they get me. If my name were John C Smith, theres like 200 of those in every state. My concern is someone somewhere doesn't like me so they decide to SWAT me.

I won't get into it, but I am about to do something that might expose me to a higher risk of being SWATed.

Ugh, yes. And what's even worse is how many people these days seem to feel that it's perfectly okay and normal to not have any privacy.

See my warnings about online harassment.
