Quote:
SEOUL (Reuters) - A South Korean man who played computer games for 50 hours almost non-stop died of heart failure minutes after finishing his mammoth session in an Internet cafe, authorities said Tuesday.

The 28-year-old man, identified only by his family name Lee, had been playing on-line battle simulation games at the cybercafe in the southeastern city of Taegu, police said.

Lee had planted himself in front of a computer monitor to play on-line games on Aug. 3. He only left the spot over the next three days to go to the toilet and take brief naps on a makeshift bed, they said.

I don't mean to sound so AS here, but here was my response to that article: yeah, that happens.

It's possible to go into epileptic seizure from the flashing on video games. Not sure if there'd be a connection with this guy's heart failure, though.
Update: Apparently not. ABC reports it was a heart attack. Guy was an addict. Got fired for skipping out on work to play video games! 8O

The whole incident is a prime example of natural selection in action.

Geez, that guy must have really liked his games; the most I would ever ever play would be 2 hours or something. 50 hours, that would make someone's eyes tired, and he probably burned a 1000 calories or something crazy from moving his fingers on the keyboard or control panel.

My record is probably eight hours straight. I'm simultaneously ashamed and proud. :D

I distinctly remember having played Chrono Trigger for something like 12 hours straight, but I may very have played some other game for a longer period of time. Nowadays I'd never do that, its always an off-and-on thing for me (1-2 hours, break, another hour, etc)

I should add that my eight hour record is my record with no bathroom breaks and no meal breaks (though there were snacks at hand).
