When I've had problems with iTunes, I just reboot and that usually takes care of it.

No matter if the system is OSX or Windoze I have had troubles that frustrated me too.
I hope to have a unix machine someday soon and I'll probably find some things that frustrate me there too.

Over all the years though, I've found the major problem was with the user... not the computer/program.

Don't mean to laugh--I did--but I know the feeling well. I actually leave it up and minimized because I hate trying to get it to come up. It takes forever!

I imported a little add-on for firefox that installs a set of controls at the bottom of my window so I can operate any music player on my system without going to it directly

I don't have too much trouble or too many complaints with iTunes actually.
One issue I just have to live with is moving my music from iTunes and my iPod to any other media carrier I want.
Luckily, there's plenty of programs available to do this with... it's just the extra steps/time that bug me.
Sometimes the old days of LP's and Tape seem so much nicer....

For editing music, I usually use Audacity while my daughter favors GarageBand.

The Winblows port of iTunes is horrible. It's slow, and I have no idea why, except maybe that gray skin. Which is kind of ridiculous because it should have the same functions as the original ones, minus the skin.

iTunes runs perfectly fine on its native OS, Mac. I like it very much. More than Winblows Media Player.

there are programs like:

to manage your Ipod files, hope it helps ;)

EDIT: I think even Winamp can now manage Ipods.
