I have windoze on a partition in my macbook.
I have been using Kaspersky for my security for a couple of years now.

So far, I haven't gotten anything on my computer that I am aware of.
I am also careful about where I go (especially on the windoze side) and what I accept or open.

Just curious if anyone else here uses Kaspersky.
I never heard of it until I talked with a local guy who runs a computer service.
He loves it!

Better than screwing yourself over with McAfee  Ive never used it for myself but Ive used a computer that has it, and it seems legit enough to me.

I use Avast. It is free, and does the job.

I use AVG Free. I used Kapersky at one point too. Both are decent. Can't figure out for the life of me why anyone would pay for a anti-virus app when there are so many good free ones out there.

I use Norton Antivirus. Consumer Reports suggests Avast from Alwil as a free solution. The top software (not free) in their list is Trend Micro for antivirus and antispyware. September 2007 issue.

So there are free ones that are good enough to do the job?

I suppose they are updated, which would keep them effective.

Care to list some of them?
Got names of any that folks should stay away from?

Should anyone worry about 'fake' programs that may harbor viruses?

I paid for another year of Kaspersky.
After that's over, I'll probably have a new 'free' one in mind to replace the K.

Try AVG-Free Edition. Its free and it keeps most big viruses away.

I've had the best luck with AVG and PC-Cillin, even though PC-Cillin is a kludge.

Norton/Symantec antivirus have proven themselves to be worthless.

I've never even considered Kaspersky anti-virus.

Thanks, I'll check into avg.

Kaspersky hails from Russia.
I'm paying for it one more year.
I try to be careful so I don't know how well it works... other than the little reports about what it has stopped.

No troubles so far so I suppose it works alright.
