Hi,

Has anyone here some experience of current speech to text software?

I have for many years used Voice-Type as provided with OS/2 warp 4. I have tried several more modern versions of Via Voice on Mac OSX and Windows but find they are too clever and will still produce a grammatically correct sentence even if it is wrong, Voice-Type will produce complete gibberish in such circumstances and the resulting error is easily spotted.

I have never tried Dragon Dictate which clams to be a leader in this technology (but don't they all) is it anything like as good as the sales literature tries to say?

I have put windows XP on my laptop as I just don't have the time to write and debug OS/2 drivers for every piece of new hardware I want to use with it.:)

I like to use speech to text as I am very dyslexic and can find it useful when it works, I also would like to be able to operate my computer by voice.

The software must contend with UK English and until I started using such software I did not realize how many clicks, grunts and odd noises appear in my speech <G> this again I suspect is another reason why the older non continuous speech recognition works better for me than the modern continuous sort.

Dragon Dictate is supposed to be good, but you'll spend hours training it. (I lost patience with it after about ten minutes)
