I've played way too many of them. I was a Counselor in Ultima Online, a Team Lead in Dark Age of Camelot, an Alpha tester for World of Warcraft, etc... you get the picture. :)

I'm currently chairman and chief mechanical systems designer for T.H.E, LLC which is designing a MMORGH which we're hoping to be able to release details of early next year. :)

Right now, I play Guild Wars... I've got all the campaigns and the Eye of the North expansion. Haven't had much playtime lately though.

I have played and/or beta tested:
Ultima Online
Dark Age of Camelot
Earth and Beyond
Anarchy Online
Asheron's Call 2
EVE Online
Everquest 2
Planetside
Star Wars Galaxies
The Matrix Online
Final Fantasy XI
World of Warcraft
Lord of the Rings Online
Tabula Rasa

and probably other ones that I can't think of right now.

Ah same as me, EvE Online is good for social playing and for loners. I stick to a npc corp and never chat with anybody, it's great! I've been getting back into it lately. I've been training for like a year straight now I have all these skillpoints, I think it's time I become a pirate or something, I'm getting bored with doing missions and deadspacing, exploration etc (of course).

I played Runescape for about 4 months , increasingly heavily, then got one of my posts on a thread censored and a snitty little "prefects" note to "warn me" about any future misbehaviour , ( I had posted a site address without realising was forbidden ) so cancelled my at that point very recent membership ( cos was free-to-play for first 3 months) but 2 months later my son got into it , and wanted pay-to-play privileges so I set it up again.
I got bored tho by the grind. And after I'd seen everything possible on pay to play and at lowish skill level anyway.
I liked it best to begin with cos was free as a bird; specialised in unarmed combat (! !!), and had no money ,etc, cos was like being homeless hunter-gatherer without having to worry about being hassled or killed , or getting food . And I just wandered around , looking at stuff.
Nick Yee's site " Daedalus project/gateway" is super for casting light on whole MMORPG experience. An article quoted on there states there are 4 main playing-styles : Achiever ( grinds , collects objects, quests etc) Socialiser ( goes on to chat , joins guilds , goes on group raids etc), the Saboteur ( player-killer etc , whose chief fun is upsetting other players !) and the EXPLORER!! ( wanders around, finds out things, knows lots etc) which was me basically . I could have got obsessively achieverish if it had been a wee bit more interesting , and if some pain of a mod intoxicated by the school prefect powers invested in him/her had not "told me off" , for giving Nick Yee's site in fact on the subject of the "gold-farming" which skews many online game economies!!
Find discussion forums much more interesting now that I've discovered them!! !!

I had WoW... the others in my family didn't like the idea of it... they think people who play it get addicted and are sort of 'trapped' in the game so... :( ... I really want it back but... I have a friend who has Runescape... but I think runescapes graphics are nothing compared to the graphics in WoW

I play RuneScape. I really think the graphics are terrible, though.

I used to play MapleStory, but then my computer got a hard drive error. That was quite annoying, as I was on library computers for months.

So, yeah. People have reccommended World of Warcraft to me. Is it overly violent? (As in, is there an overload of blood?)

That's why I never make any good friends on there anymore. When I did it felt too competitive. So now I stick with noobs and when they get high, just use them as people to talk to.

Ha, yeah I know what you mean.

For that reason I prefer sole RPG's like Morrowind, Baldur's Gate, KOTOR, Oblivion etc - although it's too easy to end up playing them 24/7.

Never played an MMORPG. Is there one that's not Fantasy but Sci-Fi?

"Eve Online", tho it seemed to me to be space-opera ish, trading and mining on planets , spaceships fighting etc rather than aliens , but then I haven't done more than the "taster" a while ago.

Let's see... Started with Eve, went on to WoW, then tried Guildwars, back to Eve, off eve and back to WoW, back to Eve, dabbled with rappelz and RF online(both like to crash regularly, like within 20 minutes of play), and ultimately still in Eve. Lots of failed attempts at running a corp, mainly due to people who can't form an independand thought on their own, but were otherwise great guys, just wanted to run screaming after the 3rd month of "Hey Xan where ya want all the ore I just mined?" etc etc etc

You get the idea, hehe

Fellow players, you'll know me by the name. Just don't pod me if yer a rat, alright? at least without fair warning pre-gank :P

I use to play EQ2, but then I switched to 9Dragons since it's free. :D Website here: http://9dragons.acclaim.com/ It's an ancient Chinese tale that's really well done. It really feels authentic.

I too get scared on the really popular MMOs. They are bit intimidating to me. So many social pressures and whatnot. People also judge you and really can make a person feel inferior at times. However, I don't get that on 9Dragons. I find that the really popular MMOs like EQ2, Warhammer, and WoW have really childish people that just ruin the fun for everyone. IMHO, they should be banned from online play.

This is why I play a lot of offline RPGs, like Neverwinter Nights 2 (not very good, but playable), SW: Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 (The best RPGs I have ever played), Jade Empire (another brillant one), and recently The Witcher (very Good).

Phantasy Star Online? That looks a bit crap though.

Someone needs to make a good cyberpunk MMO.

I second that. :D I know programming, if you know how to do graphics we could make one. I know Maya, but my graphics skills are lacking. :(
