My friend says there are programs that will 'record' whatever is playing in my browser, turn it into an MP3 and drop it neatly on my desktop. Does anyone know where I can find this on the web?

i mean music that you are listening to on Myspace that hasn't been released or gotten onto Soulseek yet. Or music you are listening to on Last FM or on an internet radio show.

I have no idea about saving a stream from a browser window, however, I have usedStreamripper to save MP3 radio streams from Winamp on my computer.

More cool things about the program is that it's been GPL'ed, and also works with Unix/Linux systems as well, as well as the fact that it's light on CPU/ memory rescources, as it works as a Plugin.

You might try Audacity from Sourceforge.net. It's available for Windows, Mac and Unix/Linux.

I used to have a really simple firefox plugins for youtube (never got a myspace one working), trouble is i dont think they like you ripping 'their' files and actually have people working to make sure they DONT work - so your eternally searching for new fixes & grabbing what you can until they get broken :/

Might be simpler just to learn some way of capturing the PC's overall audio output, but then you have to remember not to make any bleeping noises or trigger noisy pop-ups.

They'd have to stop you from watching to truly do that. Any thing you watch is stored in your cache and can be found there.
