First, let me say that I am NOT very computer literate. Compared to the average NT, I'm not bad, but compared to some of the Aspies I've seen post in other forums, I'm a drooling idiot.

Second, I am desperately hoping for help with a problem. My daughter has just got a new laptop for upcoming college from my stepmom. I have wireless internet. On my computer is a desktop shortcut called 2wire containing what I need to hook her laptop up to my wireless modem. All I have to do is burn it to disc, and load the disc into the laptop.

Problem: ever since I loaded iTunes onto my desktop, I can't get my ^(%&%^$^&$ CD burner to burn CD's unless it is from the iTunes library. I can't get 2wire into the iTunes library. I'm too computer stupid to understand how to reset the cd burner to its pre-iTunes condition. In the past I have been able to get short bursts of CD burning by loading updates of Windows Media Player, but now that Vista has come out they don't have updates for the version I can have on my 3-4 year old Dell (I do run XP). I can sometimes figure things out by tooling around the Control Panel, but this one seems to have me stumped. How do I get my stupid CD burner to work so I can burn 2wire, keep iTunes, and avoid paying the 150.00 to Qwest technical staff to come do it for me?

Anyone...?

hello.

honestly i don't know if this would be the best place to ask that kind of question. technical support is really hard to do via forums. if there's an apple store near-by they might be willing to check out the problem. if it's something small they could fix it, no charge. :)

I guess I was looking to see if anyone else had a similar issue. No Apple store nearby, and Dell tech support drives me to drink.

You could use a jump drive.

Simplest thing to try is to un install and re install your regular CD burning software (Nero, Easy CD or whatever).

without actually getting my fingers on the keyboard it is hard for me to tell what is wrong but it sounds like iTunes has usurped the default on load blank disk action. Apple is as bad as Microsoft for writing apps that want take over your entire system :(

iceb, I will try that. Thank you.
iamnotaparakeet, I would try that, too, but I don't know what a jump drive is.

Jump/flash drives:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JumpDrive

http://www.lexar.com/jumpdrive/index.html

http://www.compusa.com/products/products.asp?N=200695

I have one around here somewhere :? ... they are useful for me because my laptop doesn't burn CDs, mostly for transferring documents for me, but there are large enough ones for programs too.
