LED retro/retro tech
LED retro/retro tech.......
I just bought a knockoff of a 70's vintage Pulsar LED watch, was too poor the first time. But I'm noticing the retro tech fad from "new" led wathces, to vintage game emulators, and retro phones, cell and otherwise, retro cars, bugs and Minis for example. Even portable 8-track players have a hefty tag.
Why the rush for old tech, or at least the look and feel of it?
Not exaactly a computer topic, but tech related.........

cos it was cool....
I love retro tech styling - it was so 'futuristic'. And as for the emulators, its nostalgia innit? plus some of the old games for C64, Sega Genesis etc were very, very playable and don't deserve to die....

FOR THE HORDE!
Coming for a pretentious design angle
It is nothing new the Romans copied the Greeks. The renaissance copied them both. The Victorians copied gothic. Some people live in mock Tudor houses. It best it is aspiring to the perceived virtues of a previous age. At worst it is am attempt to appear something you are not.
The futuristic styling from a previous age reminds of what we aspired to be and how far we were wrong. We still live in the same mundane world. We don’t have doors that go swoosh, we can’t live on the moon; but we can have a cool watch.
When we move in to the next era we dismiss the previous one as old. It takes time for us to be able to revisit and to critically analyse it to appreciate what was good about it.
Good design will always be cool.
