A couple of weeks ago, I installed one of those AOL 9.0 disks you get in the mail with the 2 months free trial period. It was free, alright....freed me from the ability to access my computer at all. I could only get as far as the ME intro screen and there, I was stuck and no amount of F8 or whatever would unlock it. I called in the troops, hence, my uncle who's a genuine computer geek and can resurrect a dead computer like lazarus. (I know, I know, but not everybody with AS is a tech hound.) He told me that the 9.0 is written badly and he's had many folks who've come to him and other repairman with the same problem.

It might work well, that is, if the computer's brand new but other than that, it's a bad deal. My uncle, when fixing the computer, had to reinstall everything in order to get rid of the malfunction and any saved files I had were lost. So the moral is.....I'll say it again, Do Not use AOL 9.0 on your computer for any reason, not even if they offer you free service for ten years. I'm going to take the three AOL disks I have and use them..............as target practice at the shooting range.

I call AOL "AO Hell", this just proves it's true, lol

I've never actually come across AOL causing computers to crash in the UK (though i assume the software in the UK is the same as the US)

I have AOL 9.0, and it works fine on this computer. I would use FireFox for the Internet, but my dad wants to keep AOL.

AOL isn't compatible with most anything. What? You want to go online with PS2 or XBOX? What? You have AOL? Ha!

Doesn't really matter to me, because we can get online with Comcast. But I don't play online games on my PS2. Just on my PC.

You should have a Linux live cd on hand in case this happens again. No, I'm not saying you need to install it (though that would be nice), but if you have a live cd you can access the data on your hard drive and back it up in case windows is ever inaccessible again.
