I see that portable mp3 players come with two types of memory, flash drive and hard drive. What is the difference? I'm looking at 2 2GB Creative Zen models, one has hard drive and the other flash. The hard drive will also allow one to play lossless .wav files. Both have voice recorder capability. I forgot which one, but one will also allow one to directly link a CD player to the mp3 player and rip files. Both are the same price.

Thanks

Solid state (or Flash) is much more reliable than a mechanical device like a hard drive. On flash the memory is stored on a chip, so it can resist bumps and thuds. I would strongly recommend getting the solid state mp3 player, because I have an iPod Nano and have had no problems with it so far. I used to have a hard drive iPod photo, and it malfunctioned several times.

Please tag such monsterlinks to prevent horizontal scrolling.

I notice the lack of Ogg-vorbis support. but I guess that is a personal choice.

The Creative ZEN looks like an excellent choice to me. I considered getting the 32GB model before I received my Ipod Touch for Christmas.
