At my Volunteer Tech Job at school a student came in with a Laptop. It is an HP Pavillion N5150 that she was using for Homework, Music, Frostwire, DVD Watching, and Internet Browsing. I can boot it all the way up but after a couple of minutes the screen goes blank. I tried Cold-Booting into Windows ME Safe Mode and lowering the Resolution but that doesn`t work. The only reason why its even booting all the way to ME is because i hooked up a VGA Monitor to the laptop. Any Suggestions on what is happening. The specs are at the bottom.

500Mhz Pentium 3 Processor
128Mb Memory [Upgraded from 64MB.]
S3 Savage Video w/ 4Mb Memory
10GB Hard Drive
Windows Mistake Edition

Well,

By Screen goes blank do you mean the computer powers off? If so the battery may be hosed.

Another thing, are you attempting to do specific thing when it decides to shut off the screen? If so this may indicate software issues or a resource conflict.

Before the screen shuts off do you get into Windows ME or does it do it when it starts showing the Windows load screen?

The computer used to have the screen go blank halfway through bootup. Now i have got it to go all the way to bootup. The compuer doesn`t power off but the sreen will go blank. Last thing i remember doing is removing programs such as McAfee and junk she honestly won`t need.

Do NOT install the corperate edition on the laptop, doing so would be illegal and could jepordize any further licencing from Microsoft for your educational institution.

As far as the Retail ME disk, her product key may not work. It depends on if her product key was made for the series of ME disk that Microsft put out.

My School only uses 98,2000, and XP. The Coperate ME is mine.

You are operating as an agent of your school, thus your school would be involved in software piracy...

Who says i`m using the coperate disk when i can use the retail disk or with the use an IDE-Converter and get the ME Setup files off the hard disk and burn it on CD. So the Product Key will work on one or another. If not i`ll go with my Oringinal Plan of asking the person if i could upgrade the memory to 192 and install Ubunthu. [I`ve been working for the school for a long time and i`m specialized in IBM/ Lenovo Machines. I know that not using the same key is Piracy and is wrong.]

Then why did you just try to justify software piracy?
