Got the idea for Virtual Box from the Linux which distro thread and then downloaded a mini image to use. Vbox didn't work the first time (fixed HD size smaller then 10 GB but set dynamic size to 8 GB). We will see the result. Will keep posted

Host P4 1.8 GHz Windows XP SP2

Guest Ubuntu Gusty Gibbon Mini iso

I quite like the image of gibbons blowing in the wind (gusty). Maybe they should have called it that.

Have fun.

Well had a little fun since I ran into two problems I kind of gave up

Vbox couldn't create a fixed drive size under 10 GB so I decided on a dynamic one of 8 GB

Then Vbox stated that I ran low on memory (512 MB system but allocated 256 MB for Virtual Machine)

I'll probably try again later although what I'd like to do is run Debian on a VM should I use Vbox or WMware?

Debian using the 40 MB business card image

Sorry. I should have said. I'm running the exact reverse. Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon as host, and others under that. Also a 512M RAM 1.6GHz P4. The guest OSes at 256Mbytes. I also use 8G dynamic virtual drives. I never tried using a fixed size one.

With XP running, my system slows up rather a lot, as it is using about 1.2Gbytes net RAM. I did at one point accidentally start a second virtual machine, but I killed it off quite quickly, as I couldn't see that being much of a success. :)

Sorry for the bump

Giving this a second try except changed a few things

Debian instead of Ubuntu Gusty (Business card image)
128 MB virtual memory

Still installing :)

Erm... 9.5 hours for the install, and counting? Sounds to me as if something's gone wrong.

lol I installed vbox and then used the Debian Business card iso to install. Install went fine and then Xorg was giving trouble so I just removed Vbox from my computer, but it was a fun exercise.

Strange. I very rarely un-install anything. Why bother?

(Oh. Sorry. Windows. Yes. Uninstall everything, 'cos Windows doesn't like having more than one application installed at a time - you might try to run both of them!)
