So I'm surfing WP when this ad pops up, and like all pop ups, I hit the red x to get rid of it. Problem is, it cancels the WP window too! And when i get back on, all teh new posts are now old posts, which means i can't find the recent ones! !@$#^&~&~#%! !! !

I won't use sites with a lot of ads, especially the ones that go momentarily full screen or pop out at you. I leave the site immediately and don't ever go back. I also hate those dancing people ads. They're so annoying. I adamantly refuse to purchase or use anything that employs such ridiculously annoying advertising measures.

You need to install ad blockers.

yup...turn on ad-blockers.

Another thing, if you haven't used it; Right-click on the leftward pointing green arrow (in IE and Firefox, not sure about others), and you'll get a history of where you've been. Scroll down the list, and maybe you'll find things. What I think is happening, is that you're being switched to another window, and it puts the ad on your original browser. If you close it, then suddenly you can't get back to where you were.

It's also important to keep your software updated.

WP doesnt use pop ups as far as I can tell. You likely have some sort of malware affecting your computer.

Use firefox, then go to the mozilla web site, get the Adblocker add-on, and the ads should go away.

I use Konqueror and it's really easy to block ads there: just right-click on the image and select block all images of $server :) I think new FF releases have that feature as well though.

use firefox + a well made HOSTS file; no extra software necessary, and it blocks all sorts of bad stuff besides just ads.
