Can anyone explain why Gmail is still in beta?

I don't understand why the hell Gmail is still in beta... It's been around for over 3 or 4 years now! Does anybody have an explanation for this?

For some reason this question just popped into my head after checking out my emails.

my guess is that it's just a way of telling people, hey, nothing's guaranteed here. it's free and can break at any time...

I think it has a lot to do with the development of their mobile OS Android, as well as their ongoing development of Google Docs.

Google has big plans for both Android, and Google Docs, & Gmail will be a big part of both.

I'd like to know why one has to have a gmail account to have a blogger account. I never use the gmail, never will. Pointless.

I had a blogger account and just used my other email address. Then I signed up for gmail and changed that. You're actually signing up for a google account

Gmail is constantly under development an is always in beta.

I don't think I've ever seen a mail application come so far in such a short period of time.

and wow, it has been four years already (almost.. I joined April 26th).. crazy! I used to have quite a few e-mail addresses and now I have gmail, my college e-mail, and that's it. I trust my life to a beta service haha
