For some odd reason, I got to thinking about computer pointing devices, and I wondered: Which pointing device do you prefer?

My vote (at the moment) is for the mouse, but I'm toying (not so seriously, though) with the idea of a trackball, mainly for my older computer. (But they don't make drivers for Windows 95 anymore. *Sigh...*)

I really like my laser pointer mouse but I've had track ball's b4 i thought is was ok it didn't require as much movement of my arm so that was good.

I absolutely HATE touchpads. Especially on laptops. I have a two-button scroll wheel optical mouse - actually its This One. Nice little number I picked up from Staples.
Trackball mouses are pretty good, but just plain trackballs annoy me.

i hate touchpads too. found this out since buying new computer last week. will have to buy another scroll wheel optical mouse to plug into it instead like this one on our old computer. The touchpad has been causing me some mega screaming meltdowns, well, two plus lots of rages, because it is so uncontrollable. it totally does my head in!! :x :x

:? :( 8)

the worst is trying to use a laptop with no mouse, and having one hand hit the touch pad while the other is using the 'eraser' (pointing stick)...cursor jumps all over the place...;)

I actually like my trackpad, it just takes getting used to that's all.

I used to prefer trackball, but optical mouses changed the situation.

i perfer touchpads that have the scroll thing along one side, another device would be graphics tablet, you can write and use it as a mouse. in vista its treated as adaptive technology.

I started out with a mouse, then track balls came along and I went with those, reversed back to the newer style mouses and still use them. 0 maintenance with them and I like that, no cleaning, no busting the little wires when doing so. The only thing I need be aware of is no side buttons on the mouse. If I get those, sometimes my fingers have a mind of their own and push or squeeze the side buttons (they would be what are call a 5 button mouse, I think) causing all sorts of bad acts. For the most part my fingers are well behaved, unless I'm near my wife, but some meds I have been on cause them to move uncontrollably. When that happens sometimes it's all I can do to aim the damn arrow on the screen.

I love the pointing stick because when I'm typing I don't have to take my hands off the keyboard, but I'm still faster and more accurate with a mouse.

I HATE touchpads! Especially with the tap-to-click function on (which is usually) it's way too easy to click when you don't mean to! The locking drag is also very annoying. It's really hard to tell when it's on. I had to turn off tapping altogether on my laptop because it bothered me so much, so I mostly use the pointing stick.

Pointing sticks are kind of hard to find anymore. I don't know why they're so unpopular. (especially when the alternative is a touchpad! :x ) I got a Lenovo ThinkPad partially because it has one.

I also have a USB optical mini-mouse I plug in when I need the precision (or the wheel).

Logitech has a "trackman marble"...I've had one for years, my son also has one for his computer...just now considering an upgrade.

Trackball for me is just easier on the wrist and has better control for graphics. You can still find drivers for some of the older ones for Win 95 on places like driver guide.

This is the one I have, but with a PS2 hookup.

Be prepared to go into shock though if you decide to look for one on Ebay...they are still a pretty hot item.
