Just make sure that your area has the 3G network.

My area still doesn't have 3G yet, but i am a few miles to the 3G network near Boston.

Otherwise, what would be the difference between getting the new iPhone and iPhone 1.0?

iPhone 2.0 is heavily focused on business customers in which the iPhone will bring 100% native interop for Exchange Server users. This will probably eliminate the Entourage client on the Mac where it has been cricitzed for not having a 100% Exchange interop for the Mac. It also includes Cisco VPN app to connect the iPhone to a corporate network, etc. Other than those things, the iPhone 2.0's real selling point is the 3G for average joes.

Also of note: Vermonters don't have any AT&T service, ergo they won't get iPhone service.

I have ATT with my BlackBerry service, and there is some coverage there when I went recently. There isn't enough towers in the state, and more likely I was getting roaming from another provider (prolly Unicell). I don't think they will get 3G anytime soon. (Never mind the wireline service provider was sold from Verizon to a very crappy phone company that might make their phone network even worse when it was Verizon. I am also affected too because it was a three state deal.) So if a big bell company left the state, do you think another big bell company will put 3G in their network? Probably not.

I heard all the Apple and AT&T stores have already sold out of them.

No point for the 3G. I prefer separately an iPod and a phone. ;)

The advert made no sense!

"Here's something new to replace the award winning iPhone.

...

...

A new iPhone."

No s**t.
