Who still uses Windows 95, 98, and ME

Who uses these operating systems and what do you like and dislike about them.

For when I have to use a Windows OS I have Windows 2000 installed in VirtualBox under Ubuntu Linux.

I have windows 95 for temporary use and hate It's guts, Im ordering parts for a new computer tomorrow

I have:

... a laptop running 95 that I use for programming in the various BASIC and C languages.

... a desktop running ME (for 9 years!) that I use mainly for writing.

... another destop running XP that I use mainly for WWW and draughting.

... another desktop running Red Hat Linux that I use mainly for process control and simulations.

... another laptop running 2000 that is currently being upgraded.

And I keep them all running without any outside assistance!

The biggest issues with older OS's is security since they are no longer effectively supported. Incompatibility is another, but it depends on what you use your system for.

If all you do is write documents and you aren't regularly plugged into the internet, for instance you have dial up, then it doesn't matter too much.

If you intend on doing much more, gaming, regualr internet use and you have a cable or dsl service where you are online and connected all the time, then security is an issue.

Depands, I had 98SE on a computer connected to the internet and its fast. Then again I'm using a old but trusted firewall and never go on suspicious sites.

I have another computer with 98SE, mostly for gaming. It isn't connected directly to Internet - if I ever need a connection there, it uses my main computer (Ubuntu Linux) as the web proxy.

Win98SE is OK for these simple purposes, sometimes it crashes but I seldom do any real work with it anyway.

I've got an old laptop with Windows ME on it. The computer is never used online so that fact that it is out of date is not important. The computer still comes in useful sometimes. The biggest problem with the 2 Gb hard drive is too small for most of my stuff.

Use 95 and 98 at work. Neither are connected to any network, so updates are moot. They don't get upgraded because a) they work, and b) there's a decade-and-a-half old driver for special hardware that doesn't run on the NT codebase.

Believe it or not but a lot of people still use 98SE and ME or just upgraded not even a year or two ago. I also know people who have newer machines running 98SE for Zero-Second Shutdowns and 10-Second Booting. I also found that you don't even need a Antivirus with 98 due to the fact that criminals are now exploiting XP and Vista. [ If you don't have XP on the latest updates like SP3 your screwed.]

Actually it's only been 2 months since I switched from 98 to XP, and only because my job forced me to. I hate XP's complications, but gradually the problems with drivers and new programs made me reluctantly install it.

I use Windows ME, and I hate it

Currently I mess around with an installation on Windows 98 SE on Virtual PC 2007. One thing I like about it is that I get to run those cool old games like Quake 1 (Yes I play Quake even though I'm only 11)! But on the downside, Internet Explorer 5 is like crap on Windows 98 SE! If people use Windows 98 SE still, you should recommend to these people that they get IE 6 or Firefox. Another thing on the downside is that Windows 98 is kinda buggy and not very stable .

I was using NT sever up until 2004 then switch to XP Pro, I had to do support
for Hp Pavilion back in 2000 to 2003 most of the problems were with WinMe.

I have an old desktop that I run 98SE on (which in my opinion was the most stable MS operating system until Service Pack 3 on Windows 200) for older games and when I want to test programs I'm writing for maximum backwards compatibility.

ME?

Is it legal to run that piece of garbage?
