A few years ago, I applied for a scholarship for artists with disabilities. I did a random google search for myself, and found my artist's profile for that program, where it listed my name, where I live, and that I have Asperger's...

I don't care if others know I have it, but I'd rather not have everybody know, specifically by it being listed on the internet. Though I e-mailed them to take it down, it still got me thinking: what has happened to our concept of privacy? Where did it go? Are these people aware that that web page could get me not hired for a job or humiliated if that information gets into the wrong hands?

I don't think I like the internet too much. Privacy needs to be taken into consideration. Who here agrees with me?

It is quite dangerous you know, out of many things that happened, my usual nick name has become (in)famous, and not only that, but my real name has been publicized in articles that make it very easy to link it to my nickname, my good old nickname was very unique when I was using it, so just by knowing my real name, you can also know what that nickname is, and find just about everything I have done in the internet last 5 years! Such are the joys of google... It is scary, now If I want to be anonymous, (like on WP, since I am not too sure I am an Aspie and would personally prefer keeping this info to myself (This country wouldn't care at all services-wise anyway) I have to create random nicknames, else everybody would know, yes, really , it is crazy when your mother knows your nickname and can google it.

Google is evil, as evil as any other search engine, really, if you can find a name or even nickname you can find a lot about people...

i know about many people who already tried to google my full name, but i dont know about anyone who tried it with my nickname, which, unfortunatelly, i use everywhere. googling my full name doesnt lead to wp, but the nickname does and thats unfortunate because i write here things i never said to anyone. but its my fault, i even have an internet domain of the same name. well, will have to get used to the idea.

I use a different nickname on different web forums. It seems sensible. But it would only take someone who personally knows me to post something on the Internet linking the nicks with my real name and my cover would be blown. I prefer to be anonymous on these forums because I can say personal stuff without recriminations. But it could cause problems with my working or personal life if made public.

Privacy seems to have gone out the window nowadays. Kids have no sense of privacy whatsoever. They will discuss anything, and I do mean anything, in public or on the internet.

I try to guard my privacy as much as possible, especially on the internet. I don't register for things unless I absolutely have to, and I make sure to use false information if required to register. I'm also careful about exactly what details I give out online.

The last time I googled my real name, I couldn't find myself. :)

I recently had a problem with my employers wanting to put my photo and phone number online. They couldn't understand why I would be upset by that. I appealed to human resources and pointed out the ubiquity and expertise of hackers, and also brought up a recent case where teenagers had hacked into school records to try to change their grades (I work for an online high school). I won that fight.

Here is a good example. I have been working on a device I call the Helix Turbine for around 10 years now. Last year I typed it into google, this year it is being developed in san diego California. Coincidence? perhaps.
Hello Future. Finish that time machine (transdimensional device) yet?
